CATEGORY A (WEEKEND TOP-UP PROGRAMME)

Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical / Electronic engineering

Holders of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical / Electronic or its equivalent from a recognized HND awarding institution with at least two years working experience are eligible to apply. Candidates who satisfy the requirements stated above would be admitted into Year Two Semester Two Bridging programme. Candidates who do not satisfy the requirements stated above but are otherwise adjudged suitable will be interviewed to determine their suitability for the programme.

Holders of a Part-III in Electrical / Electronic or its equivalent

Holders of Part-III in Electrical / Electronic or its equivalent from accredited recognized institutions with at least two years working experience are eligible to apply. Candidates who satisfy the requirements stated above would be admitted into a Year Two, Semester One Foundation programme before admission into the Top-Up programme upon satisfactory performance in the foundation semester.

Duration of Study Programmes, Progression and Graduation

The minimum period for completion of the Bachelor’s programmes shall be 5 semesters for holders of HND and 6 semesters for Part-III certificate holders. Part-III certificate holders will have one additional semester (foundation courses) to prepare them for the Top-up programme.

 

CATEGORY B (4 YEAR WEEKEND PROGRAMME)

WASSCE APPLICANTS

To be admitted to the Electrical/Electronic Engineering Degree programme, SSSCE/WASSCE Candidates should have Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and three (3) elective science subjects as follows: Physics, Elective Mathematics, Chemistry/Applied Electricity/Applied Electronics. WASSCE Candidates should have Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and three (3) elective science subjects Physics, Elective Mathematics, Chemistry/Applied Electricity/Applied Electronics. In addition, SSSCE and WASSCE Candidates should have at least a grade D and C6 in Social Studies, respectively.

HOLDERS OF PART I AND PART II CERTIFICATES/ NVTI CANDIDATES

Candidates seeking admission with NVTI certificate Part I and Part II should have successfully completed the NVTI examination with a minimum of a PASS. In addition, a candidate must have obtained a minimum grade of C6 in mathematics, English language and integrated science.

Foreign Applicants

Other qualifications acceptable for consideration for admission include International Baccalaureate (IB), IGCSE, GCSE, American Grade 13examinations and other external qualifications which have equivalences to the WASSCE/SSSCE and the GCE (A Levels). Foreign certificates shall be referred to NAB for evaluation. International students whose first language is not English are required to have one of the following English Language qualifications before they can register on the programme. However, applicants from English speaking

countries may have these requirements waived.

  1. IELTS 6.0 (no less than 5.0 in any element)
  2. TOEFL paper-based 550 (no less than 4.0 in TWE)
  3. TOEFL IBT 79 (no less than 17 in any element)

Mature Students’ Entry

Mature students’ entry avenues to tertiary education provide opportunities for people who could not do so earlier in their lives to further their education at the tertiary level after some years in the workplace (preferably, the formal workplace). Such applicants should normally not exceed 5% (for Public Tertiary Educational Institutions) and 20% (for Private Tertiary Educational Institutions) of the total admissions of an institution in a given academic year. The applicant must:

  1. be at least 25 years old by 1st August of the academic year one wants to enroll;
  2. show proof of age with a birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of birth date which is at least 5 years old at the time of application;
  3. provide an introductory letter from the employer or show any other proof of employment;
  4. pass Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations conducted by UENR (English Language, Mathematics and an Aptitude Test). In lieu of such examinations, the applicant should show proof of credit passes in English and Mathematics in SSSCE/WASSCE or any other nationally recognized standard High School level examinations (for qualifications from countries outside WAEC’s NAB should be consulted.

Professional and Post-Diploma Applicants

Candidates in this category must possess:

  1. A Diploma or Higher National Diploma (HND) or its equivalence in a relevant programme from a recognised institution (e.g. electrical, computer, telecommunication. IT, etc);
  2. Must pass an interview;
  3. Two years post qualification working experience.

Candidates with HND or its equivalence in the relevant programme and who obtained First class or Second class upper honours will enter at level 300. Those with Second class lower honours or pass will enter at level 200.

In the case of diploma holders in relevant programme who obtained distinction will enter level 200. Those with pass will start from level 100.

Requirements for Graduation

To be eligible for the BSc. Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree, candidates must pass all core courses and elective courses in addition to a successful thesis dissertation. A minimum of 89 credit hours and CGPA of 1.00 must be obtained to qualify for graduation. However, a score of 50% shall be the pass mark in each course module.
